Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Agencies.

Seán Haughey

Question:

293 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the authorities, agencies, organisations and institutions established by legislation which are ultimately accountable to his Department and which deal with issues which were once the responsibility of his Department; the year of their establishment; the most recent annual budget of each body; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4569/01]

Seventeen State bodies established by legislation operate under the aegis of the Department. Seven of those bodies deal primarily with issues which were once the responsibility of the Department. The information requested by the Deputy in connection with these bodies is set out in the following table. Some of the other bodies would, in addition to their primary responsibilities, have performed minor functions from time to time which might at another time have been carried out by the Department. It would not be possible to provide information on this without carrying out very detailed research covering a long period of years.
