Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Amalgamation.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

397 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the detailed history of the new amalgamated primary school project in Cappoquin, County Waterford since the new primary school was sanctioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4431/01]

My Department has agreed to provide a new school on a greenfield site which will accommodate Cappoquin girls' and boys' amalgamated schools. The accommodation brief for the new school in Cappoquin has been increased to eight classrooms with ancillary accommodation.

A decision on whether a ninth classroom should be included in the final brief will be made at a later stage having regard to factors such as the growth of enrolments, demographic trends and housing developments. However, this will not delay the progress of architectural planning. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
