Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

400 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the application by Clifden community school, Clifden, County Galway concerning the provision of a new community school at Clifden, County Galway; his views on whether it would be better value for money to build a new school at an extra cost of £1.4 million and maintain the old building for other uses in the community; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4456/01]

My Department will determine whether refurbishment of the existing building or the provision of a new building is the better option in the case of the school to which the Deputy refers when a stage 1 report on site suitability and options has been prepared. A stage 1 report is the first stage in the architectural planning process, which can only begin following agreement of the schedule of overall accommodation.
