Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Status.

Tony Gregory

Question:

410 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 262 of 6 February 2001, he will confirm that this school (details supplied) has been granted disadvantaged status as referred to in the reply. [4499/01]

As stated in Parliamentary Question No. 262 of 6 February, the school in question has been included in the urban dimension of the New Programme to tackle disadvantage at primary level and will receive supplementary grant aid towards providing additional educational supports for the children concerned.

The reply of 6 February stated that the school already benefits from inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme. This is incorrect. Any inconvenience caused by the inclusion of this statement in the recent reply to the Deputy is regretted. While the school was considered for inclusion in the scheme in 1994, it did not rank sufficiently high at the time for inclusion. However, it has now been included in the new scheme of support for disadvantaged pupils which I introduced recently and will benefit under that scheme.

Question No. 411 answered with Question No. 393.
