Question:

122 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the schemes avail able through his Department and agencies under the aegis of his Department for tourism; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4805/01]

Some £20 million is being made available under the National Development Plan, 2000-2006, for marine tourism and is targeted particularly at improving marine access infrastructure, such as marinas, berths and slipways. Some £14 million of the £20 million is being allocated for the Border, midlands and western region with £6 million for the south and east region.

In addition, an extra £4.5 million was made available in budget 2001 for four specific flagship marine tourism and leisure projects in Counties Kerry, Sligo and Galway. Funding of £24 million is also being provided under the national development plan for recreational and tourism angling. Some £17 million is being allocated to the Border, midlands and western region and £7 million to the south and east region.
