Written Answers. - Archaeological Sites.

Ivor Callely

Question:

128 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if any evaluation of the work and corporate plan of the Discovery Programme 1996-2000 will be carried out; the working relationship with the Heritage Council in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5011/01]

The Discovery Programme Limited, a company limited by guarantee, is an archaeological research body that is funded by the Heritage Council. The company aims through archaeological and related research, to work towards a coherent and comprehensive picture of human life in Ireland from earliest times, and to publish the results of this research scientifically in ways that can be appreciated by the general public. Under its articles of association, the Heritage Council nominates four members, including the chairman, to the nine member directorate of the company. The question of the evaluation of the work and corporate plan of the Discovery Programme Limited is a matter for the company itself.
