Question:

129 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will directly, or through the aegis of the National Roads Authority, allocate emergency funding to local authorities in County Kildare to facilitate the implementation of much needed road repairs arising from frost damage; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5316/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 128 and 129 together.

A greatly increased provision of £1 billion will be available to local authorities in 2001 for the improvement and maintenance of national and non-national roads. The detailed allocation of national road grants is the responsibility of the National Roads Authority.

It is appropriate that within these very considerable resources local authorities should manage in relation to weather related contingencies affecting public roads.

Question No. 130 answered with Question No. 33.
