Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Genetically Modified Organisms.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

165 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if genetically modified soya feed is being imported to feed cattle; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5698/01]

Representatives of my Department, the Departments of the Environment and Local Government and Health and Children, the EPA and the FSAI are developing a co-ordinated approach at national level regarding the control of GMO materials. There are no requirements under EU legislation to check imported processed soya bean meal for the presence of GM varieties.
