Question:

233 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if each local authority has prepared a quality customer service initiative and a customer action plan in line with this initiative with a view to improving customer service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6444/01]

The issue of customer service has been a major plank in the current programme of local government reform. In line with this, I issued guidelines in July 2000 which require local authorities to prepare customer action plans incorporating service standards, strategies for customer service improvement and arrangements for measuring performance. The plans are due to be completed by the end of this month.
