Question:

354 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will take immediate steps to alleviate a serious drainage problem at a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6487/01]

Matters of the nature described by the Deputy are best dealt with at local level in the first instance. The management authorities of the school referred to have been advised to appoint a consulting engineer to advise them on the necessary measures to be taken. Funding will be made available to the school for the work if it is outside the scope of the devolved scheme of minor works to national school properties.
