Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

168 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when dredging operations will commence at the entrance to Burtonport Harbour, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8144/01]

The dredging of Burtonport Harbour is being undertaken by Donegal County Council with financial assistance from my Department. Phase one of the works was completed in 1999 at a cost of over £230,000

Further financial assistance of up to £750,000 was made available to Donegal County Council by my Department in 1999 and again in 2000 for the dredging works. However the council was not in a position to take up this allocation. I am most anxious that the dredging of the harbour should commence as soon as possible.
