263 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance when the Freedom of Information Act, 1997, will apply to Coillte Teoranta; and the State companies, agencies and bodies to which the Freedom of Information Act, 1997, currently applies. [7983/01]
Coillte Teoranta is not currently covered by the Freedom of Information Act and no specific date has been set for its inclusion. The remit of the Freedom of Information Act is being extended on an incremental basis. In addition to those bodies specified within the Act, dozens of other public bodies have been brought within it by way of secondary legislation. Deputies will be aware that preparations are under way to bring further bodies within the Act in 2001. In addition, Government Departments generally are being consulted on further extensions beyond those already decided upon.
