439 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he expects to finalise the guidelines for planning authorities on child care facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7995/01]
I published draft guidelines for planning authorities on child care facilities in May 2000. Those guidelines are currently being finalised by my Department following a public consultation process and I expect to be in a position to publish the final guidelines next month. The final guidelines will be issued as ministerial guidelines under section 28 of the Planning and Development Act, 2000. Section 28 requires that planning authorities and An Bord Pleanála shall have regard to any such ministerial guidelines in the performance of their functions.
