Vol. 533 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Question:

143 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the contribution his Department will make to the cost of £11.50 per week to transport a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny by bus to school in Callan, County Kilkenny. [8309/01]

The pupil in question resides in the Kilkenny city catchment area and is not eligible for school transport as he resides less than three miles from the post-primary schools in the city. I understand there are pupil places available for boys in the centre.

In the circumstances, it is not open to my Department to pay grant-aid towards the cost of private transport arrangements for the pupil concerned to the school in Callan.
