I am advised by Dublin Port Company that the total port estate occupied by Dublin Port is of the order of 700 acres including internal roads. All of this port land is used for roll-on-roll-off back up – assembling of trucks for sailings and receiving incoming trucks, containers involved in the lift-on, lift-off trade, oil storage, warehousing, truck parking etc. as detailed in my reply to the Deputy on 17 October 2000.
Approximately 30 acres of port land will be required to facilitate the building of the port tunnel. A further 18 acres are being used by Dublin Corporation in connection with its sewerage scheme from Dublin Bay. This latter area will revert to the port in three years' time. I have arranged for a map which depicts the route of the port tunnel and land usage to be forwarded to the Deputy.
