Written Answers. - Diplomatic Representation.

Austin Deasy

Question:

42 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the Canadian Government has been asked to appoint an honorary consul to be based in County Waterford to reciprocate Ireland's appointment of an honorary consul in Newfoundland in an effort to cement the cultural and econ omic relationship between the Atlantic maritime states of Canada and the South East of Ireland and the general Waterford area. [7847/01]

The question of appointing an honorary consul is a matter for the sovereign government concerned to propose to the Irish authorities. No such approach has been received.
