Vol. 533 No. 2

Written Answers. - Middle East Peace Process.

Ivor Callely

Question:

63 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the progress arising from the talks in Toba with regard to the West Bank and Gaza strip; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7829/01]

Israeli and Palestinian negotiators held very promising talks at Taba in Egypt prior to the recent Israeli election. However, due to time constraints arising from the proximity of the election, the outcome was inconclusive. That it did not prove possible to follow up on the progress made at Taba in narrowing the remaining differences has been a source of great disappointment.

I have set out the current state of Israeli-Palestinian relations in the reply I have given to the oral question No. 8417/01 from Deputy McDowell.
