Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bovine Disease Controls.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

131 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if animals sold into the culling scheme to a company (details supplied) in County Kildare are being removed from the factory where they are being weighed; if this practice should not be allowed by his Department officials; his views on whether this practice should cease immediately; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8605/01]

Animals accepted into the purchase for destruction, PFD, scheme are usually slaughtered on the day of acceptance unless in exceptional circumstances where operational considerations or further examination oblige overnight or weekend holding. My Department is examining a case at the premises of the mentioned company where it appears animals which had been detained were removed without authorisation.
