Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Appeal to the Supreme Court.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

181 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the contents of a letter (details supplied) with regard to the decision by the State to appeal the Jamie Sinnott case to the Supreme Court. [8566/01]

The Deputy will appreciate that I am constrained in commenting specifically on the case to which he refers due to the fact that the appeal in this matter opened in the Supreme Court today. I understand my colleague, the Minister for Education and Science, has outlined the Government's position on this matter in response to a similar question to him from the Deputy. However, I assure the Deputy that, as Minister for Health and Children, I am committed to the ongoing development of a range of health related support services, including appropriate day services, for adults with an intellectual disability and those with autism.
