Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Strength.

Michael Finucane

Question:

276 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the overall divisional strength of the Garda divisions at Askeaton, Newcastlewest and Bruff, County Limerick, at the end of February 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8926/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that the manpower strength, all ranks, at Askeaton, Newcastlewest and Bruff districts as at 2 March 2001 is as follows:

District

Strength

Askeaton

41

Newcastlewest

46

Bruff

40

The situation will be kept under review and when additional manpower next becomes available the needs of these districts will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
