Written Answers. - Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

286 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the procedure for making a complaint to the fraud squad; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9041/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the procedure for making a com plaint to the Garda bureau of fraud investigation is as follows:

The complainant may: (a) call in person to the Garda bureau of fraud investigation to make his-her complaint or (b) make the complaint in writing to the Garda bureau of fraud investigation or (c) make the complaint by telephone call or fax to the Garda bureau of fraud investigation or (d) make the complaint by any of the methods outlined to any Garda station.

Each complaint made is assessed and if it is suspected that a criminal offence has been committed, the matter is further investigated.
