Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Amalgamation.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

358 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that plans for the amalgamation of two schools (details supplied) in County Kildare are being seriously hampered by the fact that the senior inspector in charge of school buildings, who recently retired, has not yet been replaced; when this post will be filled; if he will ensure there is no further delay filling this post; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9032/01]

The post of senior inspector within the building unit of my Department has been filled. The newly appointed inspector will take up duty in the building unit shortly. In the meantime, the services of the senior inspector who retired recently are available to the unit on a consultancy basis.

It is envisaged that an inspection by officials of my Department of the schools in question will take place at an early date with a view to progressing this project.
