Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sale of Lands.

Jack Wall

Question:

30 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the lands to be disposed of following the review of CIE's surplus property portfolio; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8711/01]

As the Deputy will be aware, consultants carried out an independent review of CIE property in 1999 and in the light of developments in the property market since then they provided my Department with an update on their findings in October 2000. My Department is in discussions with CIE to determine the best way to proceed in order to obtain optimum benefit from the CIE property portfolio in the context of the capital investment programme in public transport under the national development plan.

I understand from CIE that it is examining a range of options, including the sale and development of property, as a basis for financing capital expenditure on major infrastructure development plans under the national development plan. This is in addition to funding available from the Exchequer and the EU. The disposal of any specific property is a matter for the board of CIE to determine.
