Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Airport Development.

David Stanton

Question:

36 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on the need to extend the runway at Cork Airport; if she will make funding available to this project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8812/01]

As I have advised the House on numerous occasions, Aer Rianta funds its capital developments from its own resources without recourse to Exchequer funding. I am advised by Aer Rianta that its ongoing £60 million investment programme at Cork Airport is concentrated on the priority areas for development to cater for current growth in passenger traffic such as the terminal expansion project, extra car-parking and extensions to the apron.

Aer Rianta keeps the issue of runway length relative to market needs under constant review in consultation with airline operators. It does not consider that the length of the main runway is constraining the development of Cork Airport.
