Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Billy Timmins

Question:

49 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans she has to upgrade rail facilities in County Wicklow; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8809/01]

The DTO publication, Platform for Change Strategy 2000-2016, proposes an integrated transport system which will meet the long-term transport needs of the greater Dublin area, which includes Counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow. Part of the strategy provides for the provision of additional suburban stations on the existing rail network, including the coastal suburban line to Wicklow. New diesel railcars will be delivered in 2002 and will allow Iarnród Éireann to provide and improved service on the suburban rail route from Arklow to Dublin.
