Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Webnames Acquisition.

Richard Bruton

Question:

63 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Taoiseach if his Department has acquired the webname and website www.bertieahern.com or any similar webname or site; if so, the amount which was paid for these rights; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8681/01]

The domain names, "thetaoiseach.com" and "bertieahern.com", which were the subject of recent controversy, have been acquired by my Department. The only cost arising from that transaction was reimbursement of the registration fees, $35 each. These domain names are now mapped to the main Department of the Taoiseach website.

In addition, my Department has registered a number of other domain names which are of relevance to it. It will be appreciated, however, that it is not possible to cover the full spectrum of domain name variations which could conceivably be used in this context.
