Vol. 533 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Michael Ring

Question:

68 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will give an update of the current position on proposed works at a pier (details supplied) in County Mayo; and the number of objectors and the nature of their opposition to the proposal. [9374/01]

The current position is that, arising from the public consultation process, a total of 22 submissions were received in my Department relating to the project. One of these opposed the proposal on the grounds of inadequacy of information lodged, necessity for the proposed development and impact of the proposed development on the environment of it vicinity.

One other submission sought the addition of a number of features, including safety features, which were not included in the proposal by the applicant, Mayo County Council.

In accordance with standard practice the revised proposal was forwarded to the applicant which is being afforded an opportunity to comment before the application and submissions are considered in my Department. My Department is awaiting the council's response and the return of certain documentation from the council. On receipt of these the application will be processed.
