Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Nursing Home Subventions.

Michael Creed

Question:

243 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children if subvention under the Nursing Homes Act is available to people with physical disabilities who are living in purpose built private accommodation; if so, if he will clarify the regulations and obligations of the proprietors of such premises regarding staff qualifications; and the funding which may be available from his Department to assist in the provision of such suitable accommodation.

Subvention payments granted under the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990, are made only to those deemed eligible following an assessment of dependency and means and seeking admittance to a private nursing home. Section 2(1) of the Act defines a nursing home as an institution for the care and maintenance of more than two dependent persons. There are no barriers to receipt of subvention on age grounds.
