Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Insurance.

Bernard Allen

Question:

281 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the situation where health boards have been forced to pay higher premiums for insurance cover following the failure to reduce liabilities and successfully implement risk management systems; and the discussions his Department has had with health boards in this regard. [10018/01]

Health boards and hospitals in common with other public bodies and private companies are paying increased insurance premiums which reflect the general cost of meeting claims arising from higher rates of litigation. Health boards are working with their insurers to increase awareness of the need for risk management systems and procedures.
