Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

384 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason the Garda car in a busy border village (details supplied) in County Donegal has been removed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9702/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources, that the patrol car at Lifford has not been removed. However, on a very short-term basis, to ensure that all checkpoints are manned, the Lifford patrol car is not being utilised for a number of tours of duty between 6.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays.

Whenever the patrol car is not manned, cover is provided by Carrigans and Castlefin patrol cars which are operating on a 24 hour basis in close proximity to Lifford. Additional detective branch patrols are also taking place in the Lifford area.
