Vol. 534 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teachers' Remuneration.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

219 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if an allowance can be awarded from his Department to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [10194/01]

My Department has recently approved payment of an honours primary degree allowance in respect of the initial degree held by the person referred to by the Deputy. With regard to the higher qualification held by the person in question, the position is that the qualification allowances committee which was established under the terms of the PCW agreement on the pay and conditions of teachers is considering the criteria for the award of allowances in respect of certain masters degrees awarded outside of this State. At the request of the committee, a group within my Department is examining this matter in detail and is expected to submit its recommendations to the committee in the near future. When criteria are drawn up by the committee, they will be applied in this case and the person concerned will be notified of the outcome.
