Vol. 534 No. 3

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

Michael Ring

Question:

197 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of funding which was sanctioned by the Government for each health board region for the special housing aid for the elderly scheme for the year 2000; the amount which was spent on projects; and the amount which was spent on administration in each region. [10382/01]

An allocation of £8 million under the special housing aid for the elderly scheme was provided in 2000 to the health boards as follows:

Health Board

Allocation

Eastern

£1,341,000

Midland

£933,000

Mid-Western

£952,000

North-Eastern

£966,000

North-Western

£755,000

South-Eastern

£812,000

Southern

£765,000

Western

£1,476,000

The total expenditure on jobs completed by the health boards at 31 December, 2000 was £6,416,937, with £2,951,037 committed in respect of jobs under way at that time.
While my Department does not have information on the administration costs of the health boards, it is understood that a number of boards recoup a minimum amount in respect of administration costs from the schemes allocation, with other boards fully absorbing their administration costs. Information regarding administration costs relating to 1999 is detailed in the Comptroller and Auditor General's report on value for money examination of the special housing aid for the elderly scheme, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.
