Gerry Reynolds

Question:

208 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason his Department will not pay a new house grant in respect of log cabin homes provided by companies (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10501/01]

A new house grant is payable only where a house meets the conditions and the standards specified by my Department and set out in the explanatory memorandum on new house grants which is supplied to each grant applicant. In particular, construction of the house must be in compliance with the requirements of the building regulations and the suitability of log cabin systems must be demonstrated through certification by a competent body, such as the National Standards Authority of Ireland – NSAI – /Irish Agrèment Board. When the required certification is available, payment of new house grants can be considered having regard to the other conditions of the scheme.
