Vol. 534 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Areas of Conservation.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

258 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if guidelines on conducting special areas of conservation informal appeals have been issued to Dúchas personnel; if the basis on which impact decisions are made are available to the public; and if she will ensure that all landowner appeals are dealt with in a standard manner. [10531/01]

Guidelines for determination of boundaries have been issued to all relevant Dúchas personnel who are trained to conduct informal appeals to a high standard. The progress of all appeals is overseen by a management team who ensure that consistent standards are observed. The basis for the decision on any informal appeal is scientific. The particulars of the scientific advice do not normally accompany the decision issued to the appellant but this information can be made available on the request of the landowner.
