Written Answers. - Departmental Schemes.

Ulick Burke

Question:

130 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the dates on which the control of farmyard pollution scheme, the dairy hygiene scheme and the installation aid schemes were suspended and re-introduced during the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10808/01]

The control of farm yard pollution scheme, which operated under the Operational Programme for Agriculture, Rural Development and Forestry 1994-1999, closed to new applications on 27 April 1995. The schemes of improvement in dairy hygiene standards and installation aid for young farmers which operated under the same programme closed to new applications on 4 October 1996 and 7 August 1997, respectively. National schemes for the improvement in dairy hygiene standards and investment aid for the control of farm pollution were introduced on 12 May 1999 and 28 June 1999 respectively by my Department.

My Department on 28 December 1998 introduced a national installation aid scheme for young farmers. On 1 February 2001, schemes of investment aid for farm waste management and for the improvement in dairy hygiene standards provided for in the national development plan were introduced. With the introduction of these schemes, the national schemes for the improvement in dairy hygiene standards and for the control of farm pollution were closed.

A new installation aid scheme provided for in the national development plan was introduced on 15 February 2001. This scheme is open to young qualified farmers under 35 years of age who have been set up on a farm on or after 1 January 2000. However, the national scheme of installation aid introduced in December 1998 remains open to eligible young qualified farmers set up on a farm prior to 1 January 2000.
