Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - Schools Amalgamation.

John McGuinness

Question:

223 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the procedure or process in the amalgamation of Thomastown Convent national school and Ladywell Boys national school, Kilkenny; the stage at which it is, and if he will give a timeframe for its completion. [10874/01]

It has been agreed that the schools in question will amalgamate when the building works are complete. At that stage it will be necessary for the patron of the school to establish a single board of management to replace the existing boards.

Architectural planning for the project in Thomastown, is proceeding as quickly as possible, having regard to the large number of school building projects on hand within my Department.

It is not possible to say at this point when construction will commence.
