Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

193 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the extent to which extra patrol cars have been made available on a 24 hour basis throughout north Kildare and throughout County Kildare; the extent to which this has occurred in the rest of the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11221/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas that the districts of Naas and Kildare together with the stations of Leixlip and Kilcock provide a policing service in respect of north County Kildare. There are a total of 33 vehicles currently on allocation within these districts and stations. Carlow district also polices other parts of County Kildare and there are currently nine vehicles on allocation within this district. For operational reasons it is not proposed to give details of the number of vehicles in service at any one time in a 24 hour period.
