Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Milk Quota.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

208 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will allocate an additional milk quota to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [11606/01]

The allocation of milk quota from the national reserve is granted on the basis of recommendations from the milk quota appeals tribunal. The tribunal is a body established to consider and advise on applications for additional quota from individual producers who have suffered extreme hardship as a result of the introduction of the milk quota system. The schemes in place for the allocation of additional quota in respect of the 2000/2001 milk quota year are now concluded.

However, it is my intention to introduce further schemes for the allocation of additional quota both on a temporary and permanent basis during the current milk quota year. I propose to introduce schemes that will deal with applications on the grounds of hardship, animal health problems and difficulties arising from the restrictions due to foot and mouth disease. Full details of these schemes will be published in the farming press. Application forms and explanatory memoranda will be available from the local co-operative or from milk policy division, Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
