Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - State Directory Omission.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

255 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the omission of the Botanic Gardens from the State Directory 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11540/01]

For the first time the State Directory 2000 incorporated summaries of departmental reference books which I, as Minister for Finance, was required to publish under section 15(4) of the Freedom of Information Act, 1997. The new directory contains a vast array of information on Departments-offices never previously provided for in the "old style" State directory and it has grown substantially in size.

Individual Departments and offices were requested to provide material for inclusion in the State directory. Although it contains information on the section within the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and Islands with responsibility for the National Botanic Gardens, and the director and other staff of the botanic gardens are mentioned in the summary of numbers serving, an error occurred in not listing this body under its own heading. I regret any inconvenience caused by this omission and will pass on your concerns to the Department involved so as to ensure that it does not recur.
