Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - National Rowing Centre.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

79 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, in regard to the commitments given in the review of An Action Programme for the Millennium, he will outline the progress made in regard to the development of a national rowing centre at Inniscarra, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11978/01]

A grant of £500,000 was allocated to the Irish Amateur Rowing Union under the 1999 sports capital programme operated by my Department towards the development of phase 1 of the National Rowing Centre at Inniscarra, County Cork. This phase of the development consists of a regatta course and essential on-land facilities. The Irish Amateur Rowing Union is still in the process of submitting the necessary documentation required under the terms and conditions of the programme before the necessary approvals to proceed with the project can be given.
