Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Social Welfare Provision.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

459 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of staff currently working in the Finglas social welfare office; the plans he has for the use of these premises in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12207/01]

The number of staff currently working in the Finglas social welfare office is 57. The office will continue to house local office staff who deal with unemployment claims and provide an information service on the full range of social welfare schemes; investigative staff who investigate customer's entitlements to various social welfare schemes, and employment support staff who provide advice and support on employment and training opportunities. The building also houses the Dublin North regional management team and the area management for the greater Finglas and Ballymun areas. The premises will continue to provide facilities for regional staff training, meetings and conferences. A pilot enhanced information and support service for families is also being developed at the office. In addition to the foregoing, the Office of Public Works, who owns the building, is examining the possibility of relocating a small number of other staff to this location.
