Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Harbours and Piers.

Michael Ring

Question:

484 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the amount of money which has been allocated for a pier (details supplied) in County Mayo for the pro vision of a slipway or upgrading of the pier. [12091/01]

In October 1999, my Department received an application from Mayo County Council for funding to assist with the cost of constructing 55 metre slipways at Doran's Point on the mainland and at Gob na Dubh on Inishbiggle together with associated road improvement and coastal protection works at an estimated total cost of £315,000. After discussions with Mayo County Council, and in view of the major expenditure of £1.45 million which has been approved by my Department for the construction of a cablecar serving this island, the county council was requested to submit a revised application to include the provision of 30 metre slipways at Gob na Dubh and Doran's Point. It is understood the council has now appointed a consultant to design and develop this project. However, to date no revised application has been received by my Department.
