Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Naturalisation Applications.

Willie Penrose

Question:

526 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a decision on an application for a certificate of naturalisation from a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11748/01]

In my response to Question No. 434 on 24 October 2000, I informed the Deputy that the average processing time was approximately two and a half years. Since that time, extra resources have been allocated to the citizenship area of my Department and the processing time has been reduced to approximately two years. I expect that this will be reduced further, as the year progresses, and it is likely that the application of the person referred to will be finalised by the end of the year.
