Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Garda Investigations.

John Gormley

Question:

537 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to a claim made by a person (details supplied) on a recent television documentary that members of the Garda Síochána used violent methods to obtain concessions from individuals; if he intends to speak to the person on this issue; if confirmed, if he can outline the steps he will take to investigate fully this allegation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11844/01]

I am aware of the programme in question and I presume that in his question the Deputy intended to refer to ‘confessions' rather than 'concessions'. It is open to any individual who considers that members of the Garda Síochána may have been involved in wrong-doing to report his or her allegations to the Garda Commissioner.
