Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Holiday Visas.

Nora Owen

Question:

554 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of a holiday visa application by an Irish citizen for a member of his family to visit; and if he will state the general policy adopted in situations where an Irish citizen wishes to have a family member visit (details supplied). [12231/01]

The position in respect of applications for visas of this nature is that, in common with applications for visit visas generally, my Department must be satisfied that the person is genuinely a short-term visitor and does not intend to remain in the State for longer than the period of time applied for. This is usually achieved by the applicant providing evidence of their commitments in their country of origin or of a positive immigration history. I have reviewed the case in question and decided to grant the applicant a visa.
