130 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reasons a whitefish restocking programme which was supported by the fishing industry was disbanded; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11502/01]
I am advised that the Dingle Whitefish enhancement programme has been the subject of detailed discussion and correspondence in recent months between BIM and the project promoters. A number of specific concerns relating to the scope, scale, execution and management of the programme have been identified by BIM as requiring further consideration and development. These have been raised with the project promoters. My Department, BIM and the other State agencies are fully committed to the successful development of stock enhancement programmes and to the establishment of a fully representative inshore fisheries development structure for Dingle fishermen.
