Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Harbours and Piers.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

139 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to an extension of a pier (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11842/01]

The pier in question is owned by Donegal County Council and its repair and maintenance is the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance. In 1999 and 2000 my Department provided funding of £133,827 for Donegal County Council for the provision of a slipway at the location in question. The county council also completed a site investigation last year into possible pier and breakwater developments, towards which my Department contributed £52,500. A proposal from the Donegal County Council for further pier improvements is under consideration in the context of the fishery harbours development programme for 2001, in the light of the funding available for such works and overall national priorities.
