Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - EU Summits.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

153 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in respect of commitments made at the Lisbon Summit 2000 concerning economic reform in order to make the European Union the most competitive economic area by 2010, he will list the number of measures that have to be undertaken by his Department; the stage at which these measures are; the title and brief description of each measure; when it is expected to have the measure taken or implemented; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11758/01]

Ireland remains fully committed to the implementation of the full range of strategies agreed at Lisbon in March 2000. While there were no specific measures undertaken by this Department as a result of the Lisbon Summit, this Department was involved in the overall strategic negotiations leading to the conclusions of the Lisbon Summit. The European Council and European Commission undertook a number of measures as a result of the Lisbon conclusions, which Ireland fully supports.

The objectives outlined at the Lisbon Summit formed the basis for the more recent Stockholm Summit in March 2001 where further social and economic initiatives were undertaken to advance the agenda set at Lisbon.
