Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - Computerisation Programme.

Brendan McGahon

Question:

124 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for Education and Science when schools will be notified of their financial allocation for the current academic year for IT 2000 projects. [12273/01]

My Department has expended more than £40 million on the integration of information and communication technology, ICT, into education at both first and second levels under the Schools IT 2000 programme.

An additional allocation of some £80 million has been made available to support the programme over the next three years, including some £20 million per annum in capital provision.

A review and evaluation of the progress made to date across all aspects of Schools IT 2000 is being undertaken by my Department in 2000-01 with a view to deciding how best to allocate resources in the future, building on progress made to date. This process is now nearing completion and further grants to schools will take account of its outcome.
