Vol. 535 No. 3

Written Answers - Local Authority Housing.

Jack Wall

Question:

125 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the application of Athy UDC for the provision of four affordable housing sites; if he will make a decision regarding this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12648/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 125 and 126 together.

Local authorities do not require my Department's approval for individual projects being developed under the affordable housing scheme. However, they apply to my Department if they are seeking a site subsidy for such projects. In this regard, discussions have taken place with Athy Urban District Council in relation to the provision by the council of six affordable houses at Woodstock Lodge. Arising from these discussions the council will submit a revised application for subsidy to my Department when more definite costings for the project become available.

There are no claims with my Department for the payment of site subsidy for any other affordable housing scheme projects in County Kildare.

Jack Wall

Question:

127 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of housing starts allocated to County Kildare and the urban councils within the county for the past five years; if this is in keeping with the national average per head of capita; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
